Barry Waxman – Founding, Managing Partner

Barry’s experience spans a successful 25+ year career in diversified segments of the high tech semiconductor industry. Core skills and track record scales from private early stage startup companies to over $1 billion public companies.

He has demonstrated a solid track record of Team leadership and coaching, significant revenue/sales growth, developing key OEM strategic customers & partners, key early adopters and Design Wins, successful highly visible marketing campaigns, building high performance organizations, developing strategic operating plans and driving positive culture changes.

Experience includes Executive/GM/Officer & Senior Management positions with a repeatable track record in Design Win driven Sales (OEM and Channels), Marketing, Operations and Engineering responsibilities.

Barry is recognized as having developed a global geographic business expertise that includes a particularly strong knowledge of Asia (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Australia), North America, Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile) and Europe

Market segment and domain knowledge, spans Semiconductors used in Imaging (Video and Still), Advanced Video CODEC’s, DVD Players/Recorders, Set Top Boxes, Wireless and Mobile Consumer Products, Mobile Commerce, PC’s/Computers, Storage and Networking, Medical/Bio, Automotive(Telematics) and Gaming Industries.

He has professionally, served on Executive Management Teams of Western Digital, Adaptec (successful IPO), Mylex (acquired by IBM), PixelMagic (acquired by Oak Technology and Zoran), Microtouch Systems (acquired by 3M) and startups, Standard MEMS, Connex Technology, Tak Imaging, as well as founding mVision Technology (www.mvisiontechnology.com) and TechASIA Management.

Other experience and involvement includes Director of Semiconductors at Trudeau & Trudeau, an Investment Bank, Member of the Advisory Board of JAAG, a Storage Aggregator, Founding Member of GlobalScot’s Advisory Board, promoting and advising emerging Scottish company’s. Barry is also a member of Launchpad Ventures, an Angel investment group serving the New England area.

His Degree was earned in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Paisley College of Technology, King’s College, London.

Paul Conley – Senior, Managing Partner

Paul is a business development executive with over 15 years of technology research and start-up operating experience.  As the founding CEO of Connex Technology, Paul lead the development of the initial business plan for the company, bringing a group of industry leaders to the founding management team and financing that plan by closing on nearly $7M of equity financing and government contracts.

Prior to founding Connex Technology, he was founding CEO of Appfluent Technology, an enterprise infrastructure software company based in Arlington, Virginia where he built a seasoned management team, developed key patented intellectual properties and guided the company successfully through market entry with over $21M of equity financings. 

Paul brings a unique blend of deep technology experience and international deal making experience with venture capital firms, investment banks, government agencies and Global 2000 corporations.  

He began his entrepreneurial career after 6 years of research in supercomputing and high-energy physics at the University of California and Los Alamos National Laboratory.  

Paul holds a doctorate in computational physics and a master’s degree in bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego, as well as master’s and bachelors degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Virginia.

Oliver Ming-Chang Wu – Managing Partner, Taiwan & China

Oliver has over 15 years of high technology industry experience in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.

In these years, he has served as Vice President, Director, Country Manager, Sales Manager, and Product Line Manager for various leading USA, Taiwanese and Chinese high technology companies.

In these management roles, he has worked for “market influencing” companies that include Vweb Corp., Silicon Data, Wistron Nexus, ITeX Inc., OAK Technology, Rockwell Systems and Acer Inc.

Oliver has extensive and proven skills in Sales, Marketing and Business Development throughout Asia, successfully leveraging his executive relationships at Acer Inc. Wistron, Arima, LiteOn, Foxconn, ZyXEL, D-LINK, Chunghwa Telecom, AUO, Coretronic, SiS, TSMC, UMC, BenQ, Compal, Quanta, Microtek, USI, ASUS, HTC, Lenovo, ZTE, China Mobile, Shanghai Bell, Malata, and many other key Tier 1 OEM/ODM’s.

His technology and market segment expertise includes Video Compression/Decompression, Digital Multimedia Applications, P2P Voice over IP, Broadband Access, Wireless Communications, Mobile Technology, as well as the related semiconductor and software products.

Oliver received his BSEE from National Chiao Tung University in 1988 and his Master of Science from National Tsing Hua University in 1990. He has successfully published several papers and various articles regarding Multimedia and Parallel Computing.

Kyu-Yong Kim – Managing Partner, Korea

KY is a seasoned executive with over 20 years experience in the high technology markets in South Korea. During this time he has established Executive level relationships across multiple divisions, at the major “Chaebols” that include Samsung, LG, Daewoo and Hyundai.

KY, an entrepreneur in his own right, founded Seonghwa Media in 1998 which he developed into one of the leading Independent Representative firms in South Korea for USA and Taiwan semiconductor innovators. In this role, his business development skills resulted in generating greater than $80M per year of revenue, for his clients who targeted the optical storage, digital imaging, AV products and digital video market segments. Earlier in his career, he was General Manager and then CEO/President of Duckwoo International. Here, he grew the company from 10 employees to over 100, with revenues of almost $200M, providing IMC, Surface Mounting, wave solder and cleaning equipment, to all of South Korea’s leading OEM/ODM electronics manufacturers.

He has a strong knowledge and Executive relationships within Samsung Electronics OMS (Optical Media Solutions), TSST (Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology), LG Mobile Communications, LG Electronics DS (Digital Storage), HLDS ( Hitachi LG Data Storage), Samsung Electronics Digital TV Division, Samsung Electronics Digital A/V Division, Samsung Techwin, Samsung Electronic Printer Division, SINDORICOH, Daewoo Electronics, Fuji Xerox Information Systems, Humax, iRiver.

Tomio Okachi – Managing Partner, Japan

Tomio Okachi is an experienced professional with over 21 years of high technology business experience. During this time, he has repeatedly demonstrated a thorough understanding and knowledge of the Japanese Tier 1 OEM market, developing key relationships with Companies and Executives at NEC, Sony, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon, Toshiba and others. The vast majority of his time has been working with Western companies where he has established strong business relationships and driven Business Development for them, throughout Japan.

After graduating from the Science University of Tokyo, he became an employee of Intel Japan. His strong technical background and academic achievements allowed him to provide technical support to major accounts as a Field Application Engineer, for Intel’s growing dominant position with CPU’s and memory devices.

In 1986, he was recruited by Western Digital Japan. He provided the main technical support for the emerging graphics controller LSI marketplace where Western Digital was a key player through its acquisition of Paradise. As a result of his efforts, the graphics controller LSI occupied more than 70% in Notebook PC’s in Japan.

In 1990, he joined Aisys Corporation as a corporate director.  At Aisys, due to his broad technology background, he has been responsible for a wide range of its clients' projects. His expertise includes sales channel selection, OEM business development, early revenue development and channel sales management. He has also managed several subsidiary establishments for key Aisys clients. In 1992, he was responsible for Starlight Networks which was funded by a major Silicon Valley VC firm. Due to his strong management skills, they achieved major contracts with Fujitsu, NEC and Mitsubishi Electric. In addition, he was also responsible for business development with clients such as Transmeta (Low power x86 processor), Tripath (Digital audio LSI) and SnapTrack (GPS for handsets; acquired by Qualcomm).

Since 2002, Okachi-san has remained President of Aisys Corporation where he continues to manage the company operations and is responsible for Silicon Valley based start-up companies. Most recently, Aisys has provided business development services to SanDisk, Solido Design Automation, Ubicom, ZeroG Wireless. As a distributor, Aisys has been selling & supporting Envivio products (MPEG4 and H.264 professional encoder and decoder systems) and Medialive (multimedia contents protection) in Japan. In addition, he also serves as a corporate director of BUSR Partners, Inc., where he is responsible for early stage company, Japan market entry.
